The History of Herbal Teas
Herbal teas have been with us for thousands of years and information regarding their applications and benefits has been collected and recorded through the centuries.
Some herbal teas are drunk for their health-giving properties, whilst others are consumed because of their refreshing, taste-tingling qualities.
The medicinal herbal teas all have individual taste characteristics; they typically need alonger time to "draw" than ordinary teas, and are not instant in their action. The aromas, flavours and health benefits that result are worth the wait.

The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenois, particularly epigallocatechinsgallate (EGCG) a powerful anti-oxidant |
Japanese and Chinese research now shows that people who drink Green Tea live longer and suffer less degenerative illness than the regular tea drinkers. Modern science can also verify that Green Tea has anti-oxidant health protective benefits.
The tea contains catechins and polyphenols, which give it these disease-fighting properties. It is claimed the anti-oxidants in Green Tea are 100 times more effective than Vitamin C and 25 times more effective than Vitamin E at protecting cells. Over 70 research papers have been released showing the efficacy of Green Teas.
Why don’t other teas have similar heath-giving properties? Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. What sets green tea apart is the way it is processed. Green tea leaves are steamed, which prevents the EGCG compound from being oxidized. By contrast, black and oolong tealeaves are made from fermented leaves, resulting in the EGCG losing its effectiveness.
